Robert ATKIN's marriage to Mary MOOR - this is purely based on the assumption that Robert ATKIN Jnr - baptised 22 July 1764 in Dunston, is your lineage. As I said before, Dunston is quite a distance from West Keal and I was trying to establish we had the right family of ATKINs. I included the Dunston family in the tree as I did not want to lose sight of it, when and if, I took up this lineage again on your behalf. What I really wanted was a Will mentioning other siblings and/or a burial of Robert's siblings/mother and father to ascertain the correct lineage in West Keal. It may be that Robert Jnr went to West Keal on his own, in which case it will be harder to prove.

It has taken me over twelve hours to type (most of) the following message, by the time I've replied to other messages in the thread, had a meal, chatted to two relatives who inconsideratedly phoned me , and answered a couple of emails, but that message basically fits what I've already said

      Quote:

When you get back before the 1841/1851 census and pre-civil registration which began on 1 July 1837, it can be very difficult, if not impossible, to prove a line beyond doubt.

At the moment I would say there is no connection, between your Robert and the one born in Dunston, but I have been proved wrong before.

However, the burial of a Robert Atkin, aged 71, in Nocton on 24 January 1837 might mean that I'm right, as Nocton is about a mile away from Dunston.

While on the subject of Robert Atkin, the father of the Robert who married Ann Kemp, I hope your records don't say he was born in 1761, nor that they say he was baptised in Wickenby Fen in 1682, nor that he was living in Louth, aged 80 in 1841. All those records are patently wrong when you're talking about him being the father of someone born about 1765. (Well, the Wickenby Fen baptism is a possibility but a highly improbable one.)

I don't know how much of your research you've done yourself, and how much was done by the 'someone in Lincoln'. Depending on how long ago you did your research/the stuff in Lincoln was done, you might want to double-check your findings. I know I made quite a few mistakes when I first started out - which I found when I double-checked my work a few years later!

You might need to haunt Geer Road. Always ask for films of the parish registers. Use Bishops Transcripts as a secondary source as they should be a copy of the PRs - though there are frequently differences, so ideally you also need films of the BTs too.

Lincolnshire FHS are gradually publishing indexes to baptisms and burials 1754-1812. They're working on a deanery basis, and are currently working on Gainsborough. The next one will be Graffoe, which includes Dunston and Metheringham and I would expect that to be published November 2010 or February 2011. Bolingbroke deanery has already been published. It may or may not contain anything of use regarding the baptism of Robert senior, but it will show all the Atkin/Atkins/Adkins relevant to the parishes in that deanery for that timeframe, and is therefore a very quick way of checking quite a lot of PRs in a very short space of time.
